Clinical support at Vapotherm

COPD patient and device management at clinicians' fingertips.

From 2023 to early 2025, I led the design process for Access365 from early alpha up to FDA testing.
I led design, research, and workflow development, while facilitating user testing, working closely with medical professionals.
The Access365 ecosystem enables medical professionals to connect with and manage their COPD patients, devices, and device usage.

Data that matters.
Real-time patient trends and compliance information help to better inform clinicians on where their immediate care and support will matter most.
Device alarms - right when they happen.
Identify and address time-sensitive device alarms and manage disposable items, ensuring patient safety and comfort with ease.
Information when and where it’s needed.
Create and save all-inclusive summary reports, ensuring clinicians have the most up-to-date information when and where they need it.
What difference did we make?

none to 1!

Before working on this project, this product was barely a concept. It was a journey going from almost nothing to entering the FDA testing phase!
What started out as just a dashboard evolved into a system enabling a higher level of COPD patient managment and care.
What did I learn?
Reflections, thoughts, and considerations for fututre projects.
More data isn't always better.
Overwhelming amounts of data displayed can disorient users, leading to cognitive load issues.
Identifying what, how, and when data is displayed aided in helping serve, not deter, from the users' task at ahnd.
Dream big, focus small.
Focusing on the core functions of a product is crucial for early releases, especially with smaller teams.
Trying to pack an early release full of too many features leads to a half-baked experience and a frazzled team.
Relationships build bridges for information gaps.
Designing for healthcare with very little background knowledge was seriously daunting.
Talking to medical professionals, users, and asking my team questions helped me develop confidence in designing for this space.
Meetings matter; make them count.
With limited time and resources on the plate, every second counts!
Setting a structured FigJam board for meetings allowed me to keep everyone on task, as well as serve as a meeting note repository.
